Sikh celebrates this day as Bandi Chor Diwas in remembrance of the release of Guru Shri Hargobind Ji from prison.
Various states in India celebrate this festival in different manners from each other altogether but keeping the essence intact. For example, In Bengal, this day is celebrated as ‘Kali Puja’. An avatar of goddess Durga. Firecrackers burst to welcome the goddess. In Tamilnadu, people awake early in the morning to have a traditional oil bath. Most Tamilians celebrate this day as the death of Naraksura, a feared demon, at the hands of Lord Krishna.
